Credits are the only thing that RenderScreenshot counts. You will find your balance, learn what uses a credit, estimate what you need, and change plans when you need more.
Check your balance
The sidebar of the dashboard always shows your plan and the credits left:
Usage shows more: the balance as a bar, the success rate and render time of the last 24 hours, and requests per day for 7 or 30 days. The bar turns amber above 70% used and red above 90%.
In code, every screenshot response has the header X-Credits-Remaining, and GET /v1/usage returns the full picture at no cost:
curl -sS https://api.renderscreenshot.com/v1/usage -H "Authorization: Bearer $RS_API_KEY" # {"plan": {"id": "free", ...}, "credits": 150, "used": 96, "remaining": 54, # "period_start": "2026-10-01T00:00:00Z", "period_end": "2026-11-01T00:00:00Z", ...}
Know what uses a credit
| Request | Credits |
|---|---|
| A successful screenshot or PDF, any size | 1 |
| A request that fails (timeout, blocked, invalid) | 0 |
A reused render (cache.available) |
0 |
Loading an X-Cache-URL CDN link |
0 |
| A batch | 1 for each URL that succeeds |
GET /v1/usage, presets, devices, cache management |
0 |
Credits reset every period and do not roll over. The Free plan resets on the 1st of each month (UTC). Paid plans reset when the monthly invoice is paid.
At 0 credits, screenshot requests fail with 403 insufficient_credits until the reset or an upgrade. Nothing is billed: there are no overage charges.
Estimate what you need
Count renders, not page views:
| Use | Renders per month |
|---|---|
| Share images for 300 pages, signed URLs with a 30-day cache | About 300, plus one for each page you edit |
| 40 pages captured twice a day | 40 × 2 × 30 = 2,400 |
| Link previews for 70 new links a day, cached | 70 × 30 = 2,100 |
Then pick the plan:
| Plan | Price | Credits per month | Requests per minute |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 150 | 10 |
| Starter | $10 | 2,500 | 60 |
| Growth | $40 | 12,000 | 120 |
| Scale | $100 | 60,000 | 200 |
Paid plans also add custom storage and larger batches.
Change your plan
Open Billing. Only the account owner can change the plan.
- Upgrade: click Get Starter (or another plan) and pay. The new allowance is available at once. When you move from one paid plan to a higher one, you pay only the difference for the rest of the month. Credits you used this period still count.
- Downgrade or cancel: click Manage Subscription. The change takes effect at the end of the current period, so you keep what you paid for.
Next steps
- Reuse screenshots for 0 credits to need fewer credits.
- Prepare for production: alert before the credits run out.
